No matter how modern India becomes, it is still very much an old country.<\/em><br data-start=\"219\" data-end=\"222\" \/>\u2014 Anita Desai<\/p><\/blockquote><h2 data-section-id=\"1b03lvs\" data-start=\"239\" data-end=\"254\">Lathmar Holi<\/h2><p data-start=\"256\" data-end=\"422\">Lathmar Holi, celebrated in Barsana near Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), is the regional version of Holi, the Festival of Colours, and is celebrated well before actual Holi.<\/p><p data-start=\"424\" data-end=\"693\">Otherwise relatively unknown to the rest of the world, Barsana is flocked to by international tourists during the traditional festivities where locals from two neighbouring villages \u2013 Barsana and Nandgaon \u2013 come together to create a magnificent spectacle of traditions.<\/p><p data-start=\"695\" data-end=\"907\">The whole drama is based on the legend of how Lord Krishna visited his beloved Radha\u2019s village Barsana, to play Holi with her and her friends; and how the women of Barsana chased him away with long wooden staves.<\/p><p data-start=\"909\" data-end=\"1078\">Continuing this playful custom, the men of Nandgaon visit the sprawling compound of Radha Rani Temple in Barsana on the first day to play Holi with the women of Barsana.<\/p><p data-start=\"1080\" data-end=\"1316\">Thousands visit the village to witness the cheerful carnival of Lathmar Holi, accompanied by shouts of \u201cSri Radhey\u201d or \u201cSri Krishna\u201d. The Holi songs sung in pure Braj Bhasha, the regional language of Barsana, hold spectators spellbound.<\/p><p data-start=\"1318\" data-end=\"1434\">On the second day, the men from Barsana march out to Nandgaon and similar celebrations take place at Krishna Temple.<\/p><h2 data-section-id=\"1bw6s9l\" data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1449\">Kumbh Mela<\/h2><p data-start=\"1451\" data-end=\"1612\">It is said that legends never die, and the overwhelming \u2018acts of faith\u2019 at the Kumbh Mela, since times immemorial, have kept a certain mythological legend alive.<\/p><p data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1924\">The story goes that there was a war between demigods and demons over a <em data-start=\"1685\" data-end=\"1692\">kumbh<\/em> (pot) containing the nectar of eternal life. The demigods tried to flee with the kumbh, and a few drops fell at four places: Haridwar, Uttarakhand; Prayag (Allahabad), Uttar Pradesh; Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh; and Nashik, Maharashtra.<\/p><p data-start=\"1926\" data-end=\"2114\">Haridwar is the site of the Kumbh Mela to be held in January\u2013April, 2021. Celebrated every twelve years, this phenomenal event draws millions of devotees from different parts of the world.<\/p><p data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2335\">It is believed that bathing in the holy waters of the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna accrues a tremendous amount of spiritual merit. Easy to see why it is called one of the largest human congregations in the world.<\/p><h1 data-section-id=\"mra1ap\" data-start=\"2337\" data-end=\"2369\">Journey to the Pilgrim\u2019s India<\/h1><p data-start=\"2371\" data-end=\"2394\"><strong data-start=\"2371\" data-end=\"2394\">11 Days &amp; 10 Nights<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"2396\" data-end=\"2463\"><strong data-start=\"2396\" data-end=\"2463\">Delhi \u2013 Jaipur \u2013 Agra (Barsana and Nandgaon) \u2013 Haridwar \u2013 Delhi<\/strong><\/p><h3 data-section-id=\"16tdadt\" data-start=\"2465\" data-end=\"2492\">Day 01: Arrive in Delhi<\/h3><p data-start=\"2494\" data-end=\"2539\">Arrive in Delhi.
