A Day in the Backwaters

A Day in the Backwaters
You will be enjoying a local trip to the village of Kumarakom, which won the national award for being the best Rural Responsible Tourism in India. Being most popular for its lovely weather, its coastal energetic vibes and its enriching freely flowing water canals, this place could be best explored rowing on a canopy or a wooden boat. The sight of water submerged paddy fields, the chirping birds, rays of setting sun, all combine together to picture a perfect scenario. Riding through narrow water canals and merry making paddy fields, you will get a glimpse of the local lifestyle. Sit and relax in-between for a fresh dose of coconut water. You would have a new experience of eating fresh tender coconut. Learn how toddy is prepared through tapping of the coconut tree. A man will show you how coconut tree is climbed.
Later on, you will come to a house where lady of the home will demonstrate the skills of weaving leaves of coconut tree. Then, come to another place where you will be able to learn the fine weaving skills required for making a beautiful coir. Coir is made from the husk and fibres derived from the dry coconut parts. Later on, come to the beach sight where you will find a new way to catch fish through the use of bow and arrow from a local fisherman. You will be then taken on a tuk tuk to the local vegetarian restaurant named Kudumbashree where local delicacies await you.
Staying with the locals at their humble abode is an experience that is going to stay with you for the rest of your life. Such is the hospitality of the people of rural Rajasthan who believe in making the most out of whatever little they have. And at the end of the day, as the sun goes down in all its glory, the villages’ folklore will mesmerize you like you never could have imagined!

The exquisite sight of water kissed paddy fields, the setting sun and the lively spirit of the locals, all combine together to create a fantastic experience for anyone landing on the soil of Kumarakom. It was so uplifting to see local women weave amazing stuff from the waste material of plants.

“I spent an entire evening at the Samode village singing and dancing with the locals in their colourful traditional attire. I even tried the Chari dance with a pot on my head. Yes, a definite must try for everyone!”

Rural Rajasthan
Bright, traditional, rustic yet soulful – that is rural Rajasthan for you! Considering the chaotic and busy lives we live, visiting the interiors of the state will make you realize how meditatively beautiful life is beyond the hustle bustle of the cities.
While the desert state is considered a perfect embodiment of richness and royalty, it also offers a much humble sight of a Persian wheel irrigating the lush fields in its rural areas. A group of traditionally dressed women, carrying clay pots on their heads, walking down the dust roads and turban-clad men with majestic mustaches sweating it out in the fields, is a common sight that you will see as you drive through the state. And they do it so effortlessly without any trace of discomfort that, it will not just inspire you but will make you appreciate the simplistic beauty of life.
