Confessions of a shopaholic
Indians love to shop and Jaipur is a treasure trove for anyone, serious or curious. You will soon realize that it is impossible to capture the magic of Jaipur in just one trip. Instead, the beauty of this place is that it pulls you back, again and again, to discover its riches.
Jaipur is justly famous for its blue pottery, stunning jewellery, local bohemian bazaars and of course it’s hand-woven, dyed, and block-printed fabrics, which are made by skilled craftspeople. On your tour of the Pink City, explore the many boutiques and workshops where the designs are created, stitched, sculpted and crafted. Depending on our shopping preferences, your Luxe team will be able to share with you the names of the reputed stores but if it is fabric you wish to shop, one of our favourite stores is Anokhi.
Though it now has branches across India and internationally, Anokhi is first and foremost a Jaipuri brand, with decades of history behind it. The store works closely alongside artisans skilled in block printing, as well as appliqué, embroidery, and other techniques, to produce its striking textiles and clothing. Once you’ve browsed the flagship shop, you can also venture to the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing, located adjacent to the Amber Fort in a restored haveli, where you’ll learn more about the traditional methods that have made the city’s textile reputation so enduring.
We will also organize a session with one of the masters and you get to watch him carve unbelievably intricate wooden printing blocks and even have a go at printing your own scarf under his direction. Be prepared to leave with armfuls of skirts, tunics, scarves, shawls, and more!
Staying with the locals at their humble abode is an experience that is going to stay with you for the rest of your life. Such is the hospitality of the people of rural Rajasthan who believe in making the most out of whatever little they have. And at the end of the day, as the sun goes down in all its glory, the villages’ folklore will mesmerize you like you never could have imagined!

I was on a business trip to Rajasthan on my birthday and was staying at a heritage palace property. After a long tiring day when I returned to my suite, I was surprised by the hotel staff with a specially drawn up scented bath and rose petals strewn on my bed. They also arranged a special cocktail on ice for me. One could get used to this royal treatment!”

“I just could not resist myself from collecting some of the typical souvenirs that Jaipur has on offer. The local bazaars are just full of products created by the brilliance of master craftsmen- blue pottery, block-printed fabrics, exquisitely designed jewellery and what not else – you name it and they have it!”.

“I spent an entire evening at the Samode village singing and dancing with the locals in their colourful traditional attire. I even tried the Chari dance with a pot on my head. Yes, a definite must try for everyone!”

Rural Rajasthan
Bright, traditional, rustic yet soulful – that is rural Rajasthan for you! Considering the chaotic and busy lives we live, visiting the interiors of the state will make you realize how meditatively beautiful life is beyond the hustle bustle of the cities.
While the desert state is considered a perfect embodiment of richness and royalty, it also offers a much humble sight of a Persian wheel irrigating the lush fields in its rural areas. A group of traditionally dressed women, carrying clay pots on their heads, walking down the dust roads and turban-clad men with majestic mustaches sweating it out in the fields, is a common sight that you will see as you drive through the state. And they do it so effortlessly without any trace of discomfort that, it will not just inspire you but will make you appreciate the simplistic beauty of life.
